Constitution Week – September 17 – 22
Constitution and Citizenship Day – September 17

National Constitution Week is from September 17th through September 23rd to promote each citizens understanding and appreciation of the U.S. Constitution, its ideals, and the principles of citizenship. Congress established this week-long event in 1956. Constitution Day and Citizenship Day is Sep 17th to commemorate the signing of our Constitution on September 17, 1787 in Philadelphia.

Schools and government agencies are required to provide educational programs on our Constitution on September 17th. The law establishing Constitution Day was amended in 2004 to require all schools receiving federal funds hold educational programs about the Constitution on September 17.

Ask students you know to share their knowledge of the Constitution education provided to them on September 17th. If they did not receive education on the Constitution on September 17, you can report this failure and misuse of federal funds to your Congressional Representatives. You can let your School Board know, too.
